AN INTERVIEW WITH CHESTER FRENCH DRUMMER- EMMANUEL DOMINICK

So As I Said, I Wanted To Keep A Blog On My Experiences With Talented Members of The Arts Industry, Whether They Be Musicians, Artists, Poets, Writers, Models Or God Knows What!

I Have Decided To Keep This Blog Page Running- Until; My Projects Website Is Finished. And By Project I Mean: "PANDORA'S BOX..!"

PANDORA'S BOX Is An Upcoming Television Show Directed At Young People - Teens. The Show Will Consist Of Various Interview's, Dissussions, Topics In Society, Adverts & Short Films, All Introduced By A Group Of Teens (Myself Included) From Different Lifestyles, Life Passions, Backgrounds, Ethnic Origins, etc...

The Aim of the Show Is To Introduce Such Topics, To Try And Motivate Young People And Help Them To Understand...ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE! And Why Not Make This Clear- By Letting Them Hear It From The People Themselves...TEENS!

Obviously There Is Alot More Too It... But Thats Just A Brief Walk-Over!

Well Anyway... Here's What This BLOG Post Is Ment To Be About:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AN INTERVIEW WITH CHESTER FRENCH DRUMMER- EMMANUEL (Manny) DOMINICK...

So Manny, Can You Tell Us About When You Began To Get Interested Into Persuing A Career Into The Music Industry? How Did This All Start?

Manny: It Began When I Was Five! My Biggest Influence Was My Grandmother. You Know I Was Born In The Church, So Baisically Everything that I Did Musically, Was A Service To God. And Thats How I Started Playing Drums, You Know, I Never Stopped Playing, It's Been About 15 Years Now.

So How Did It Come About For You To Be Playing For Musicians On The StarTrak Label? What Was Your Opportunity?

Manny: Well It Started With An Audition For An Artist Called Kenna. I Got That, So I Started Playing For Him, And I Then Met Chester French. It Was At A Show In Boston, They Remembered Me And Called Me, Like, A Year Later, We Got Together, Started Rehearsing, And We Have Been Together Ever Since.

Are You Enjoying Your Time Here In The UK?

Manny: (Laughs) So Much, You Know I Have To Go To Piccadilly Circus, Everybody Has Been Telling Me About It But I Havn't Had A Chance to Go.

You Should Of Gone Today!

Manny: O Well Thats Because, I Left My Gear At The Venue We Played At Last Night (CLUB KOKO) So I Had To Go And Get That Earlier.

So You Said Your Biggest Influence Was Your Grandmother, What Was It That She Did To Inspire You So Much?

Manny: Yeh, She Played The Piano, She Still Plays, She Reads Music So Well, I Cant Wait To Go Back Home To Philly And Play With Her. Shes Amazing. Shes Been My Biggest Influence (Laughs) My Mother Is Musical Also, I Mean Everyone Is Musical In My Family, We All Either Sings Or Play Music.

Further Into Your Career, Who Would You Most Like To Work And Progress With?

Manny: I Would Love To Work With KanYe West, I Would Love To Work With Michael Jackson. I'd Say Number One Is Michael Jackson, Number Two, KanYe West, You Know Anyone In The POP Music Scene, Anyone Dedicated To Their Music So Much They'll Go Platinum. (Laughs) OK, To Narrow It Down I'd Say Michael Jackson, KanYe West, Chris Brown, Thats It...

Who's The Person/Artist That You Can Say You Were Honestly Glad To Meet? That You Can Say "Yeh, They Were Cool!"

Manny: Honestly I'd Have To Say Beyonce... NO! (Laughs) No, No, No, No, It Wasn't Beyonce It Was Her MOM Tina Knowles, We Danced Together At Soulanges Party! (Laughs)

You Told Me Prior To This Interview That When You Graduated From School You Wanted To Save Your Money And Move To Persue Your Music Career...Tell Me How That Came About, What Was Your Motivation For This, What Was The Reason?

Manny: I Went Out To California With A Cousin Of Mine Before, That Lived There, He's Also A Drummer. And We Went To A School, An Institute... Just To Visit A Few Of His Frends In L.A... When I Got There, Just The Presence Of The Place, The Atmosphere, It Was The Kind Of Place I Wanted To Be In. There Were So Many Drummers And Musicians, Drums Sets In Every Room, I Was Like I Gotta Come Out Here When I Graduate, So I Graduated At 17, I Saved My Money, But I Spent It All On Clothes And Shoes To Get Suited, (Laughs) I Told My Mom And She Was Like; Well I Bought You That Ticket, (Meaning The Flight) So You Gotta Go And Make It, You Know, I Was Like Damn!

Interview By Lauren Cheney

And This Is How MY Interview With Manny Dominick Came About:

The Past Two Day's Had Been Crazy:

DAY 1:

I Had Previously Entered An Online Competition To WIN Tickets To See N*E*R*D, Chester French & Kenna, Perform At Club KOKO iTunes Festival In Camden, London... Lets Just Say, I Had Not Been Successfull...

I Heard They Were Giving Free Tickets Away At The Door, So I Thought Why Not! A Friend And I Had Taken The Tube Up To Camden To See If We Were Lucky Enough To Get In. Whilst Doing So Another Friend Of Mine Was Queuing With Her Mum. It Turns Out You Needed ID(18+) To Get In... Being The Best Person She Could She Gave Us The Tickets To Get In Ourselfs... So, We Had To Jump Back On The Tube To Brixton (Home) Get Our ID's And Make Our Way Back To Camden To See N*E*R*D's Set...

We Made It!

Chester French Were On First, A Band That Had Just Been Signed To StarTrak (Pharrell Williams' Record Label, For Those Who Don't Know). I Had Only Heard Chester French Online And Didn't Know Too Much About Them... Hearing Them Live Left A Different Sort Of Impact On Me... A Mixture Of All Possible Things, I Can Tell You That They Are Worth Seeing, If Playing Live Near You.

Kenna Then Came On Before N*E*R*D Took To The Stage... Hmmm... The Thing I Love About This Man, Is His Music Can Always Make Me Smile, You Know, He's An Interesting Sort Of Guy- Music Sounds Mixed With The Same Vibe As U2, The Neptunes, Ian Brown (Well Thats My Opinion), I Dunno It's Just Different, And I Keep His Album's On Replay For Day's At A Time.

Then... You Hear, "Tilt Your Head Back And Close Your Eyes." Thats Ment To Be The Opening For N*E*R*D's AntiMatter, The Crowd Just F***'s Up LOL! It's Like A Minni Mosh Pit, Whether You like N*E*R*D Or Not, I'll Guarantee You'll Love Them Live, It's A Whole Different Vibe From Listening To Them On Your Simple Boom Box At Home!

Well Anyway, The Night Goes On And The GIG Finishes, The Crowd Scatters To The Back Doors To Get A Look On Those Who Had Just Given Them "The Best Night Of Their Life's". Cameras Flashing, Papers And Pens Thrusted Under Your Noses, Girls Saying: "Pharrell I Love You" LOL! And Then Those Who Stand At The Back And Embrace The Fact That They Really Did Have "The Best Night Of Their Life", To Wait And Meet Those Who Are Still A Part Of That Wonderful Musical Proccess. And Here I'm Talking About My First Encounter With Emmanuel Dominick, Current Drummer For Chester French (After Playing For Artists Such As Amerie And Kenna.)

A Group Of Us Were Blessed By The Fact Of Meeting The Group Of Musicians That Are "Kool" To Chill With Their Fans!

Later That Night We Reached To Club Maddox Where The After Party Was Being Held, Having Brief Encounters With Well Known Artists Such As Robin Thicke And The One And Only H.O.V - Jay-Z , Outside, And Various StarTrak Members Inside (Thanks To Mr Dominick). The Night Then Ended With Many Getting Turned Away At The Doors, From; Fans To Paps.

Still Feeling Blessed And Excited I left For Home.

DAY 2:

Early Evening I Recieved A Phone Call From Emmanuel Dominick And Chester French's Manager, Being Invited To Watch A GIG And Interview The Member's Of Chester French For My TV Show PANDORA'S BOX (As Previously Mentioned)...

Bringing My Sister Along, We Reached "The Star Of Bethnal Green" Were The GIG Was Being Held, And Were In Time For Sound Check. Then Came Interview Time...

Lets Just Say It Being My First Interview It Wasn't As I Expected, Difficult, That Being Nothing To Do With The Band, But I Had To Be More Spontaneous Then Ever, Because I Had Never Really Done Anything Like That Before.

Well We Got The Interview Out Of The Way, (Which I Will Be Posting Soon) Recieving Some Rather Peculiar Answers To My Questions, And Were Then Able To Watch An Incredible Intimate GIG. Those Boy's Really Don't Know How To Behave LOL, Still A Great Bunch Of Guy's And I Insist You Cop Chester French's Album Due To Be Released Early This Year (2009, O Gosh That Time Already!)

You See Guy's Crazy Things Can Happen, You Just Gotta Be Ready And Belive In Your Self, Being Spontaneous Is A Key Point You Gotta Have In Life, It's Not As Difficult As It Seems, Its About Being YOU... And I'm Sure You ALL Know That... The Difficult Part Is Finding That Jump Off Point, You Know, When To Go, I Say... Its Better Late Than Never!

LOLO xx
